What Is SEO And Content Marketing

What Is SEO And Content Marketing

What is seo and content marketing is going to focus on providing you my own strategy I have been using for years, and this strategy will provide you more traffic as well as the most value to your readers. You must learn how to be effective for both of these to earn an income in this business, so what is seo is what we will talk about first.

Search Engine Optimization

Today it is not as simple as when I first started this business, you must learn how to rank on the first page of the search engines to start to see a steady flow of traffic. SEO writing is the skills you need to know to be seen by searchers interested in what your article is about, and today blog posts need to be more like articles and tutorials than in the past. The days of inserting a few keywords and some content no longer are effective, so if you don’t come up with an effective strategy you might never experience the income you need and want from your business.

All About Website Links

After years of being overwhelmed and not understanding why I was lacking in traffic and sales from my website I started taking free online courses to learn more, so I do owe much of my own success from hours of studying through these courses to self-educate myself. You can find many of these online at no cost to you, so I do recommend it worth your time to take advantage of these free resources.

  • External Links
  • Internal Links
  • Image Links
  • Affiliate Links

How To Earn Money From Home Online

External Links

First, do you really understand what this type of link is, and to make this as simple as possible think of them as any link that takes your readers off your website but isn’t an affiliate link. Now the next part how to use them really was difficult for me to start doing, and that is you are going to want to use websites that are authorities in your niche. Many of you might be thinking like I was in my early days, and that is why should I be sending my readers to my competitor’s websites?

  • Provides more information to your readers
  • Improves your search engine ranking
  • Adds value to your website
  • Builds relationships with authority websites

How To Use External Links

You will need to use external links in moderation and spacing them throughout your article as your best strategy, I usually use three to five of these links depending on the length of my topic and what my topic is about. It is also best if you choose the websites carefully, you want to be sending your readers to. You can learn more about external links for seo by visiting the website Moz and this is an example of an authority external link.

Internal Links

This type of link is a link that will send your readers to another section of your own website, and this rates high on search engines as well as providing more information and value to your readers at the same time. The most obvious section of your website would be your past posts related to the topic you are writing about, but I often use my menus pages as well as my online store as internal links.

How I Use My Internal Links

The reason I use this type of link this way is I can control which of my pages I am sure my readers are going to visit in each of my articles, and this has improved my sales dramatically by sending my readers to my online store and my best menus pages.

What Is Content Marketing For SEO

Image Links

The image alt tags are often missed by many beginners which will affect your ranking, and what you want to be sure to do is to add your keyword in all your image alt tags. This provides search engines even more input on what your article is about, so forgetting or not knowing to do this can impact your success more than you might imagine.

How To Use Images

I used to use copyright-free images from websites such as Pixabay and Unsplash, and even though these work very well I now design my own using Canva. I have found many times finding the right images to go with my article just was taking too much of my time, and many times I was not happy with the images I was finding anyway. Since Canva is free why not use it to add unique images, and I find it is taking me much less time and frustration doing it this way.

Affiliate Links

The last link that you will be needing to learn about is your pride and joy affiliate links, and the biggest mistake I made as a beginner is overusing these links in my articles. You really want to be careful how many of these you use in your article, so many people go crazy with these links with the intention of earning more money. Actually fewer affiliate links are better than more, and when you overuse them you often can be sabotaging all your work and research.

How To Use Affiliate Links

You will notice if you read my tutorials in 2020 I rarely insert affiliate links in the majority of my posts, but instead, I have added an online store with Woo Commerce a free plugin. Now I can promote all my affiliate programs by only inserting one link, and this will be seen as an internal link which is a bonus towards me ranking on the search engines.

Keywords And Keyword Phrases

My basic keyword strategy is focusing on low competition and high traffic, you can read my strategy in more detail if you missed that tutorial in this series in the post what is content marketing seo.

How To Use Your Keyword And Phrases

I want to make it clear this is the strategy that works for my own business, but that does not mean it is the only strategy that will work. Everyone really should take my strategy if they wish to use it as a starting point, but experiment until they find what works the best for them and their own business.

  • Insert keyword in the title
  • First Paragraph
  • Image alt tags
  • Last paragraph as the heading tag

In the majority of my articles, my keyword or phrase will be inserted on an average of 5-7 times depending on the length and how many images are in each article. I find by doing it this way I am not overusing my keyword in my content, and I always end my last paragraph with my keyword in the heading tag.

What Is Shared Hosting For

Web Hosting And SEO

You really are going to need to consider investing a few dollars per month with a good web hosting company, you can get by when starting out with a shared hosting plan as long as you are only using text and optimized images on your website. If you ever decide to add an online store you might find you will need to upgrade to a dedicated hosting plan, I am using Dream Host and I highly recommend them with years of awesome service with speed and no downtime.

Wealthy Affiliate

I am a proud member of Wealthy Affiliate, and I love the community and all the members with all my heart. I highly recommend them for their training program and community, but as for their web hosting, in my opinion, it is not the best plan to be hosting your business long-term. For the low cost of hosting why not invest in one of the recommended companies for WordPress, and here is the cost of the plans at Dream Host which is recommended on WordPress.org.

  • Starter shared plan more than adequate for new websites $4.95 per month or you can pay yearly for a very generous discount.
  • VPS plan unlimited WordPress websites $10.00 per month
  • Dream Press dedicated hosting plan $19.99 per month

What I really love about Dream Host you can get any of their plans with WordPress.org installed, so this prevents you from the hassle of transferring a website to their hosting plan which for me is a great time-saver and one less headache to deal with.

WordPress Recommended Hosting Plans

The two other hosting companies recommended other than Dream Host are Blue Host and Site Ground, so this provides you three of the best options to go with when shoppng for a hosting plan.

What Is SEO And Content Marketing

Now you know what strategy I am using for my own business, and this I hope provides you some ideas of things you might want to try for your own business strategy. You can copy my strategy step by step or just add some of my steps into your present business plan for a better search engine ranking.

Thank you for reading this tutorial and feel free to leave me comments and questions.

  1. That was really informative, I never knew you could use the the keywords through out the article as you explained it including in the photo. Didn’t think google even looked past the Headline. Thanks for sharing these awesome tips.

    1. Thank you, Rick

Using the keyword or keyword phrase in your image alt tags is an easy strategy
to use to help search engines understand the keyword or phrase you are trying
to rank for, and I like this strategy since it does not give search engines
the idea you are abusing your keyword or phrase by inserting too much in your

  2. Hi Jeff, another great article. You did a great job describing all link types and how to use them. This will be very helpful for everyone interested in the affiliate business. Your keyword strategy is on point. I use a similar strategy, and a lot of my posts are on the first page on Google.
    Best regards

  3. Hi Jeff,

Your article is very helpful and well-written. I appreciate your efforts in writing all of these.
For external links, what kind of websites should I add? e.g. Wikipedia? What else?

I know that H1 H2 titles also affect ranking. How to make use of H1 H2 H3 Titles? I meant what kind of information we should put under H2 and H3.

I made a lot of mistakes in SEO setting before. So I recommend Yoast SEO plugin. This is really useful to remind beginners about various SEO settings.

    Thank you.

  4. Hi Jeff,
Great post! I am new to blogging and affiliate marketing so thank you for all of this information, such as adding keywords to the image tags and using woo commerce to reduce the number of affiliate links on your page! Those are really good tips that I’m going to work on.
What about backlinks? How important are those and how can you get them?
I’ve pinned this article for future reference — Thanks again for the nice info!

    1. Hello Anna,

Backlinks are internal links to past blog posts, and search engines like when you use these links
and external links to authority sites in your niche

  5. Hi Jeff,

Great write up. I was curious to know the ratio of external links to word count. I tend to put in 1-2 external links per post. Maybe I should be adding more.

I didn’t realize that you needed to put the keyword in the last heading. I was putting it in the last paragraph. Will this be alright?

    1. You do want to add your keyword in at least one of your heading tags,
and I just do it in my last paragraph since it seemed natural for me
to end my tutorial doing it this way

  6. Hi Jeff,

Thanks again for such a detailed post! I’m just starting to learn about SEO and content marketing and it really does seem like a minefield of ways to go wrong!

I love your idea of putting all of your affiliate links into a store format, is it difficult and expensive to do? Do you know how well that concept ranks within the search engines compared to a smattering of affiliate links within the text? Or do they rank the individual posts rather then the site as a whole?

Oh – one more question, on internal links I’ve heard it suggested that they should not open in another tab because that will affect your bounce rate? Is this what you would recommend as well? And whtat does it mean?

Sorry for so many questions! I’m trying to develop my website by learning the best way of doing SEO and content marketing the first time rather than developing bad habits that I have to break later!

Thank you for all your guidance!

    1. Hello, Lisa

Search engines rank your posts according to a combination of things

      External Links
      Internal Links
      Affiliate Links
      Keyword / Keyword Phrases Placement
How long people stay on your website

You do want to link your external links and affiliate links in a new tab to
prevent your readers from leaving your website, and bounce rate is how long or
how short your readers are spending on your website longer the better of course
and if you have a link in your first paragraph that does not open in a new tab
your readers will miss out on the rest of your article and possibly your affiliate

      I hope this helps

      1. Thank you Jeff! You always share great tips and ideas! It is awesome to learn from someone who has put these things to the test and found success with them. I like the idea of using Canva to create your own photos for your articles, I used Canva to create things to post on social media but I hadn’t thought about it for this purpose. I have worried about using the same free pictures everyone else uses, so that is a great alternative.

I am interested in learning more about how to create a store type of page where you drive traffic from all of your posts. It has been a tricky balancing act trying to figure out when to use affiliate links, which ones, how many, etc. Lots to learn and many opportunities to try things out and see how they go!

  7. Hi Jeff,

Thanks for this, a greater understanding of SEO and content marketing is exactly what I’ve been looking for!

I love the idea of putting all of the affiliate links into a store, but is it something that is hard to do? It makes perfect sense now that I think about it as you’re looking for your individual posts to have minimal affiliate links and thus have more SEO “value” rather than the page as a whole.

What about internal links? I’m a newbie and have been reading everything that I can get my hands on pertaining to SEO and content marketing, and I recently read that internal links should not take the user to a new tab. Apparently this hurts your “bounce rate”, but I’m afraid I don’t quite understand what that means. Is this something that you would agree with? And could you please help me understand what it means?

Sorry for all the questions, but thanks in advance for the support and answers!

    1. Hello, Lisa

I always use a new tab so my visitors are not taken off my website as the search engines see,
as long as your website is in an open browser search engines rate your visitors as being on
your website which does impact your ranking and authority more than many people realize

  8. Hi Jeff
I am very new to the online website business, but I have always found your advise and explainations very clear to follow. Reading your posts have helped me understand a great website is nothing without traffic, I struggled in the beginning to understand external and internal linking, but use it now as a standard practise. Thank you for all your help I amost appreciative to be able to read posts from your experience.

    1. Thank you, Nadine

My tutorials are to make understanding content marketing and SEO as easy
as possible for you, I know when I started I had no idea what all these links
were or how to use them effectively

  9. Thanks for a very informational article, Jeff. It has helped me to understand more about SEO and Content Marketing.

I have done most of the strategies you laid out here. One of my favorite is image alt tags. This truly gets my websites noticed on image search results.

    Once again, thank you!

  10. That’s a very informative post. All types of links, right set of keywords and images will make the posts rank faster. Faster ranking means more visitors and more visitors means more money. Even though this approach is little longer, I will surely go for it as I am sold on the idea of SEO because of this article 🙂

  11. Awesome content Jeff, I am definitely learning from reading through your tips and will need to go back through and update some of my own websites after reading this!

    1. Hello, John

I am happy my tutorials are helpful for your own online business,
and I do appreciate you taking the time to leave your comment.

  12. Hey, Jeff, thanks for the great read. As an affiliate marketer myself, I feel that it’s important to always be learning, researching and getting the opinions of others. You certainly have given me some food for thought here and I appreciate it.

    1. Hello Cynthia

I am happy this tutorial gave you some new ideas to insert into your own online business,
and if I can ever be of assistance feel free to leave me a comment and I will get back
      to you pronto

  13. Hi, Jeff.

I have been operating my website for several months. Still, it is at an early stage, and my traffic is not heavy. The four categories of the links are interesting. I haven’t considered Image links as standalone, but your explanation convinces me. For external links, I haven’t thought of linking to authority websites or competitor’s websites. Your reasoning makes perfect sense to me. It is time to apply your strategy.

Regarding Canva, I have created an account a few weeks ago. My impression was that it was not quite free. Also, I was not impressed by its offerings. Probably, I have missed something. I’d better go back and check what it offers. You indicated that you had found unique images from there. Are you creating new images with a free account? I am asking because a lot of images required payment when I checked the site.

WooCommerce Plugin was also interesting to me. I am not familiar with it. But, it looks like it is an excellent way of avoiding many affiliate links in an article. I am highly interested in this feature, and I will study more to find out how it works.

Your site is very informative. Probably, I need to study a lot to understand what you explained. But, I believe it’s worth it. I will visit your site often, and ask many questions. Thank you.

  14. Hi Jeff, thanks for sharing, as always your articles are very informative. As you know from my comments I’m starting this journey and things are starting to get more clear. Honestly I’m not earning money jet but I know that if I will commit, I will see results. One thing I would like to ask you is: how often do you put affiliate links in an article? In your blog how often do put and article with affiliate links?
    Thanks Jeff
    God bless

  15. Hey Jeff,

Thank you for another excellent article. SEO and content marketing really does take a lot of persistence. That is what I really struggle with when it comes to my SEO.

After reading your posts, they are so inspirational and informative that they really keep me going. I’m currently on my 17th post which is the furthest I’ve ever gotten.

Thanks for the inspiration and keep up the amazing work.

    All the best,

    1. Thank you, Felicia

I always am pleased to hear when my information is beneficial to my readers,
and I do appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment

  16. Great article. I was recently feeling stuck in writing content for my website. It’s just so hard to get started. Now i feel even more motivated and i’ll defenetely take your article in use of advice. THANK YOU!

  17. Excellent article as always Jeff,

I don’t really use external links but I frequently include affiliate and internal links. Have you any advice on how many affiliate links to include in a post of say 1000 words?

  18. Hi Jeff, thank you for this informative post, I learned a few strategies I will be looking at applying as well as considering a new Webhost as well. Great resourse, I appreciate the information you have shared with us in thei post.

  19. Thank you for this great article!

There are really so much to learn about SEO and I really had no idea what I was doing when I was just getting started.

I’m wondering how many affiliate links can we include in each article?

    Keep up the great work!

    1. Thank you, Jonath

How many affiliate links to insert in your articles depends on the length of your article,
so a good rule to live by is no more than one affiliate links every 100 words or every
      third paragraph.

  20. That’s a very informative and interesting article for me. I’m at the beginning of running my online business and I found a few inspirating and useful information with this post. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge with us!

  21. Hi Jeff,

Great job on your post. I have 2 sites now up and running at WA. I only a year into this adventure, but I wanted to say that I picked up a few great tips from your post.

I love your idea of using Canva for images. You are so right when you say that you spend way to much time looking for the right free pics. I am going to steal that idea for my own use. LOL! Thank you.

I do use external links on my posts, but I usually only use 1 or 2. I think now after reading your post, I am going to up that a bit.

Best of luck to you and I really loved your post

    1. Hello, Cory

I am happy you have been in this business for an entire year,
you are past the newlywed stage and should be starting into
you’re next level if you have not already.

We never stop learning in this business

  22. Your articles always make me think. I need to consider putting in External Links but also your advice re the woo commerce plugin got me thinking too. This is something I really need to look at too to minimise having to include affiliate links in my posts etc. Sometimes I get a little lax putting image alt tags. I’m going to have a look at my last couple of articles and do this. I’m also going to check that I have my keywords in the last para too. I always use them in the first paragraph or second but then don’t necessarily think of it again. So many things to attend to for search engine optimisation. Thanks again Jeff , excellent.

    1. Thank you,

I do keep mentioning the things you should be doing for better ranking on search engines as reminders,
and with the time you will start doing all these things naturally without thinking. You might want to make
a cheat sheet for what you need to do, and this can help you while you are new.

  23. Wow Jeff this article on what is seo and content marketing is really informative. You have made it easy for me to understand how to use external links (that was a challenge for me). I also use woo commerce plug in and I only released last week that I can add my affiliate products in which is so great. And as you have mentioned I can now also use that for internal linking.

You are a star thank you so much

  24. Great info very good info seo content is so important I forget you can put it in your images.I will have to start incorporating it in my blogs. Also using Canva for images is another one that I don’t think about thanks for the great info.

    1. Thank you, Telly

It’s great you received so much from this one tutorial you was not aware of before,
and if you ever need assistance leave me a comment
